Ringbrothers™, king of the widebody Mustang, pulled the sheet off an incredible widebody convertible 1965 Mustang at the 2016 SEMA Show.
Spring Green, Wis. (November 2, 2016) – World famous custom car builder and high-quality billet parts manufacturer Ringbrothers unveiled its newest one-of-a-kind Mustang, the 1965 widebody convertible Mustang “Ballistic” in the Ringbrothers booth at the 2016 SEMA Show on November 2, 2016. “Ballistic” marked a first for Ringbrothers, as the builder has built many Mustangs, but this is the first widebody convertible to leave the Spring Green, Wisconsin shop. The Mustang unveil was also the first time Ringbrothers hosted a car reveal in its booth at the SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
Mike and Jim Ring created the “Ballistic” Mustang for owner Greg Avra and kept the styling a little more low-key than some of their previous builds, but the convertible is still a typical Ringbrothers work of art. Under the hood, the Ring boys installed a 5.8 liter supercharged motor from a GT500 which is kept running smoothly by Royal Purple fluids. The engine is mated to a Bowler-built Tremec T-56 Magnum six-speed transmission with a Centerforce clutch, QA1 driveshaft and a Ford nine-inch style rear end built by John’s Industries. Exhaust is expelled through a fully custom stainless steel exhaust system with Flowmaster Mufflers.
Bringing the Ford-powered convertible to a stop are a set of Baer Brakes with six-piston calipers and rotors sized 15-inches in the front and 14-inches in the rear. “Ballistic” wears custom forged HRE Performance Wheels sized at 18×10.5 in the front and 19×12 in the back and shod in sticky Nitto INVO tires sized 295/35/18 up front and 325/30/19 out back.
The cabin of the Mustang is stylized with comfortable custom seats by Upholstery Unlimited. Custom gauges by Classic Instruments keep the driver informed and a Vintage Air system keeps the interior climate controlled when the top is up. The Mustang is also adorned inside and out with high-quality Ringbrothers billet parts, crafted in-house, including the shifter, shifter knob, brake handle cover, trunk hinges, hood hinges and turn indicator.
The exterior of the car is fitted with a Ringbrothers signature handcrafted widebody Mustang kit and carbon fiber body panels including the hood, deck lid, and bumpers. “Ballistic” is finished in a gorgeous custom BASF Glasurit paint color named “Blu By U.”
“There’s always a challenge working with a convertible, especially if you’re going to put a lot of power through it,” Mike Ring, co-founder of Ringbrothers said. “The body on an early Mustang is pretty flexible before you cut the roof off, so just imagine how floppy it is without. We went through and stiffened and tightened the whole thing up and we were really pleased with how it looks with the widebody kit on it. This is a seriously fun car and we’re sure Greg will love it and enjoy driving it.”
