Fifteen local high school students from the museum’s Teen Auto Workshop, presented by Jack Roush and Roush Performance, refurbished the 2011 Mustang GT which will be auctioned during the museum’s annual Gala on October 5, 2019 to benefit vocational education programs.
LOS ANGELES (September, 2019) – The Petersen Automotive Museum will auction off a special 2011 ROUSH Mustang during the 25th anniversary gala on October 5, 2019. The car was refurbished by local high school students that took part in the museum’s inaugural Teen Auto Workshop program, presented by Jack Roush and ROUSH Performance.
Designed to address the need for youth vocational education, the Teen Auto Workshop was launched this summer at the Petersen. Students gained hands-on experience by modifying the 2011 Ford Mustang with a variety of ROUSH Performance parts upgrades. The half-inch ROUSH Performance lowering Suspension kit was added, offering additional stiffness and stability. The stock wheels were swapped out for a set of ROUSH 20” graphite wheels. Students upgraded the stopping power with a ROUSH TrakPak Brake kit. A ROUSH Axle-Back Mustang Exhaust kit was installed to give the Mustang an aggressive exhaust note, and that signature ROUSH sound. In addition to the performance modifications, a front and rear fascia were added, featuring new fog lights, grille, and splitter. This firsthand experience was designed to teach young enthusiasts the basics of car maintenance and the reward of seeing a project through to completion. Proceeds from the sale of the car will go to fund additional sessions of the program.
The Petersen gala, titled “Celebrating Silver, Going for Gold,” is the museum’s biggest fundraising event of the year. Marking the museum’s 25th anniversary, the event will honor the Ford Motor Company and the Ford Family – featuring a live auction, legends from the automotive world and food by the Drago brothers.
“As our biggest fundraiser event of the year, the evening promises to be an exciting night for all,” said Petersen Automotive Museum Executive Director Terry L. Karges. “By attending L.A.’s ‘Automotive Party of the Year’ you will make a significant impact on your community and on an essential global institution.”
All gala proceeds including the entire sale price of the vehicle will directly benefit the Petersen Automotive Museum Foundation—a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity which provides essential STEAM-based education and programs to more than 100,000 children and teens each year. This support also extends to the preservation of the museum’s collection of over 300 vehicles, production of new exhibits and funding of buses for more than 10,000 Title 1 students.
