Prescott, Ariz. (Jan 24, 2024) – Centerforce, a leading manufacturer of performance clutches and flywheels for classic and late-model cars and trucks for over 40 years, has released its new billet steel flywheel for LS-swap applications. The new Centerforce flywheel is designed to make pairing a Gen III or IV LS engine to a pre-LS manual transmission simple and reliable. It is a high-quality flywheel made from billet steel and designed for improved performance via a bolt-on installation.
The new 168-tooth Centerforce flywheel provides improved build quality over factory offerings and solves a spacing issue when mating LS engines to older transmissions. LS engine platforms have a crankshaft mounting flange for the flywheel that is roughly 0.375 inches closer to the back of the engine than earlier generation (pre-1997) GM small blocks. Because of this difference in spacing, enthusiasts seeking to pair a new LS engine with a pre-LS manual transmission can run into many issues. This flywheel mates to 1997 and later GM LS engines while offering the proper flywheel thickness (0.400 inches) to use in conjunction with the mechanical clutch linkage on many common early model transmissions, including Muncie SM465, GM SM420, New Venture NV3550, GM Muncie, Borge Warner T-10, and Richmond 4 and 5-speeds.
The kit (Part #704142) includes the pilot bearing and comes pre-drilled with pressure plate bolt patterns for early GM 11-inch and 12-inch patterns (3/8-inch bolts) as well as late-model metric GM 11-inch and 12-inch patterns with dowel pins.
