Southern California-based CEO of PR and digital agency Kahn Media to run as incumbent in 2018 SEMA Board of Directors election with platform focused on youth engagement, combating overseas counterfeiting and increasing SEMA member benefits.
MOORPARK, Calif. (April 30, 2018) – Longtime automotive aftermarket industry veteran and marketing agency principal Dan Kahn will be running as an incumbent in the coming SEMA Board of Directors election, following a successful first term. Kahn has worked in the aftermarket for over 20 years and has served as a SEMA volunteer leader for nearly a decade, with a focus on consumer engagement and the promotion and protection of small and mid-sized businesses.
“I am running for a second term on the SEMA Board of Directors because I want to bring real change to the way the association operates,” Kahn said. “I have a clear and concise plan for what I want to achieve that includes increased protection from overseas counterfeiters, a defined long-term plan to engage new young consumers and working with staff to improve how the association serves and communicates with members – particularly small businesses. SEMA as a trade association and a show must help its members thrive in the face of serious challenges from globalization, government oversight and more; this is why SEMA was founded in the first place.”
Kahn brings a unique perspective to the SEMA Board of Directors, as the CEO of the fastest growing PR and Marketing firm in the automotive aftermarket that services two dozen top brands in the hot rod, restoration, motorsports, tuning, truck and off-road space. His firm pioneered the use of a blended social and traditional media direct-consumer-engagement strategy, which gave him a deep well of knowledge for communicating directly with consumers and engaging the next generation – the primary focus of his first term on the SEMA Board. Kahn and his team work with manufacturers, builders, WDs and retailers – he has his ear to the ground which is what inspired the second run for the board.
“Thanks to a strong economy our industry is booming right now, but I’m worried about the future,” Kahn explains. “Sales are strong and the SEMA Show keeps setting records, but our industry was founded by people in little shops and garages with big ideas, and there are threats on the horizon threatening our innovators – increased federal oversight and environmental regulation, giant overseas factories stepping on our intellectual property rights and even a shift in industry culture as a result of the influx of private equity investment and business conglomeration. I will be a voice for the small business owner on the board, I’ll fight to protect our interests and to keep SEMA focused on helping the small businesses that helped create the association and industry in the first place.”
Voting will take place online between May 8 and May 22, 2018 and is open to current SEMA-member companies. Votes must be cast by each company’s primary contact, who will receive an email with voting instructions on May 8. Winners will be announced by May 25 and formally inducted into the SEMA Board of Directors at the SEMA Installation Gala on July 20, 2018.
