Driving lessons on “The Ring” with Hans-Joachim Stuck, track time in a Porsche 917 and tours of the world’s greatest car collections among auction items that will generate proceeds for Petersen Museum
Los Angeles (October 12th, 2017) – The Petersen Automotive Museum announced today the incredible lineup for the charity auction at its 23rd annual Gala on October 14. The auction will help fund the museum’s ongoing mission to inform, entertain and educate the public on the art and engineering of the automobile, as well as proving funding for the museum’s free school bus program for Title 1 schools in Southern California.
Sponsored by Porsche and emceed by “The Late Late Show” host James Corden, the event will also honor the Duke of Richmond, Lennox, Aubigny and Gordon – previously known as Lord March of Goodwood – as this year’s recipient of the Automotive Icon Award.
From one-of-a-kind experiences to treasured items, the Gala auction promises to have something for everyone, from casual enthusiasts to avid collectors. This includes:
Nick Mason Drum Fronts
Donated by Pink Floyd percussionist Nick Mason, the set of drum fronts are based on originals from the band’s tours in the 1970’s. Only 10 copies of each reprint will be produced and will be available only at select charity auctions, hand-picked by Mason himself.
Tour of Jay Leno’s Garage
One of the world’s most famous car collections, Jay Leno’s garage is often seen on television, but rarely in person. His “Big Dog Garage” will open its doors for an up-close look at the rare muscle cars, classics and motorcycles that the former “Tonight Show” host has collected.
Porsche Experience with Bruce Canepa
Porsche collector and racer Bruce Canepa will lead a tour of his Santa Cruz garage, which houses his collection of historic automobiles. The top bidder will also receive tickets to the world’s premier Porsche gathering, the Rennsport Reunion,
where they will take “hot laps” with Canepa himself on the Laguna Seca racetrack in the passenger seat of his Porsche 917/10. Off the track, they will have access to a rental Porsche. The package also includes a tour of The Porsche Experience Center in Carson, Calif., as well as behind-the-wheel time in a new 911 GTS. The package is completed with an invitation for two to the Petersen’s opening night preview of “The Porsche Effect” in February.
Stay at Peter Mullin’s Scottish Castle
The winner of this experience will take a week-long trip to Scotland to stay in “Tigh An Tuir,” a 200-year-old castle owned by acclaimed car collector Peter Mullin. Four lucky couples will be treated to fine dining by a three-star chef, have access to a private driver and will be just minutes from Scotland’s most famous golf courses.
Goodwood Revival Experience
The highest bidder will experience a weekend for two at the 2018 Goodwood Revival, the “spiritual home” of British motor racing. The package features access to the Goodwood driver’s club and an exclusive evening party at the estate. Hotel accommodations will also be included.
Drago Brothers Gastronomy and Gasoline
The winner and nine guests will start the night at collector David Sydorick’s Beverly Hills home for drinks and hor d’oeuvres amongst rare Zagato-bodied Alfa Romeos and Aston Martins. The next stop will be Peter Mullin’s private collection in West Los Angeles, for a gourmet dinner by the Drago Brothers amidst extraordinary French vehicles from the 1920’s and 30’s. The evening will culminate with dessert at Bruce Meyer’s private garage in Beverly Hills, for a look at a 1957 Ferrari 625/250 TRC and Shelby Cobra “CSX 2001.”
Robb Report Car of the Year Tour
International luxury authority Robb Report’s annual Car of the Year experience puts the winning bidder in the driver’s seat as a guest judge, testing of the world’s most exceptional new luxury and sports cars. The package also includes dinners and wine tastings at Meadowood Napa Valley, and airfare for two with JetSuiteX.
The Ultimate Fan Experience at the United States Grand Prix

Nights will be spent at the Ritz-Carlton in Wolfsburg.
“The museum has been fortunate to have generous friends who have not only sustained us but have also propelled the museum to worldwide notoriety,” said Executive Director of the Petersen Automotive Museum Terry L. Karges. “The Gala brings all of those friends together every year to celebrate what we have accomplished as a team and helps to bolster the museum financially to continue to serve the community.”
